  • Bring It On!

My favourite game.. no prizes for guessing why.

    Will update soon.

Could’ve been better without shaky hands. Last night after dinner at SS2 Selera Makan, a number of us headed to Bentay‘s house for a challenge of Pictionary! There were three groups: SSGC, Agape and RBS – which, obviously consisted of those who just returned from RBS few days ago.

Needless to say, SSGC won. *grin*

A challenge was thrown to the preschoolers of Sunday School – the little ones aged five and six. We prayed that they would believe that Jesus is alive, after hearing the story of Mary, who found the tomb empty, and found Jesus alive in front of her. In the story, the other people did not believe that He was alive when Mary went to tell them, until they themselves saw Jesus before their very own eyes.

Would the little children believe that Jesus is alive? Would they believe without something tangible to hold on to? I don’t know if their answers are influenced by peer pressure, as all of them said yes, and each drew a smiley face on a piece of paper taped to the back of a shelf when asked how they felt about Jesus being alive.

I really want them to truly believe in the existence of our Saviour.. we can only do so much, by praying, teaching them and telling them the story of Him, but it is God Himself who will do the work to touch their little lives and hearts.

  • ConPHYWsion 12

Waiyee is mixed-up in her mind. Today’s been exhilarating. And also discovered that she is indeed a horrible events planner who is not influential enough to draw attention. Therefore, she failed.

    I shall say no more.

Thanks to those who supported though. =) I appreciate them. I shall now sleep my frustrations and moodiness off and wake up afresh for.. *drumroll*

The launch of Phases Online and Confewsion 12 at Mustard Tree, Jln Ampang, KL at noon!

If you love writing, drawing or just simply meeting people, that’s the place you gotta be at!

I admit I haven’t been writing nowadays, but I’d like to go there and meet new people, as well as those whom I have not seen for ages, ever since the last Confewsion at Amy Koid’s house three years back. Oh, Confewsion is a huge gathering of young writers with musical performances, praise and worship, poetry reading, meeting other young writers, and so much more than that. You get to meet many interesting people there, and make friends with them.

I’m looking forward to it, although I’m a little disheartened that I’ll be going alone. Anyway, it’s going to be an adventure going to Jalan Ampang all alone, because this clumsy jakun hasn’t explored Jln Ampang by foot before (except the time when I was at Gleneagles Hospital when Ju got admitted because her appendix sengaja cari pasal smack in the middle of our last exams).

Third semester is coming to a close. Everyone’s mind was not in the classroom during our last translation tutorial. Even our tutor tried to run through the exercises in a breeze. Amanda, Pei Ling and I had Cadbury dairy milk chocolate, blueberry chocolate and Choki Choki for breakfast while translating sentences. Exams will start next week, Tuesday and Saturday afternoons – Mass Media & Society and Translation 1.

I’m halfway through my course already. Time passes fast, too fast. Another one and a half years’ time, I’ll be graduating from my diploma.. with flying colours, I hope.

  • Leaving Clouds

This time it feels different. She clicks on her Xanga subscriptions in her e-mail. The first post displayed is his updates. She reads, and for the first time, she feels no resentment toward him. There is somewhat a pleasant warmness. And for the first time, peaceful.

As she browses through her vast collection of MP3s, she comes across a folder labeled his name. She recalls all the songs he has recorded in the past. As she selects all of the audio files into her windows media player, she sees a file, which featured herself, with him on the piano. Instantly, she remembers the jamming session they both had had in church two years ago.

Wincing at her own thin wavering voice with imperfect pitching, she cannot help but realise that her confidence was so minuscule, as compared to today. As she sits and surfs the Net, she listens to his songs. She notices his improvement in his vocals and recordings too, though she finds it funny why she never did. Guess it takes a bigger time span to see apparent improvements. Now she sees why he invested so much on his condenser microphones. Instinctively singing and harmonizing along to his songs, she is amazed that no waves of depression and misery hit her. Finally, she has truly forgiven and release the grip of grudge she has been holding on to. She has learnt to let go.

    Took her so long.

She hopes that this is for real. It has been a rough ride. At last, the sun shines through. =)

  • Huddles

Clockwise from top left: Melissa, Tee Ming, Anna, Melanie, Jeannie, Joycelin, Wai Yee, Jessica

One of us remarked, “We seldom come together as the girls of YF and just spend time together.”

Even though it was just a short session, everyone basked in each other’s presence, in Melanie’s new house. We huddled in her room, all eight of us and started joking and chatting. Mel and Melissa’s family has just moved to SS2; a few of the adults went over to their new home to pray after Easter service. Eight girls and a guy from YF followed along.

I looked around at all of us. Then came to realize that now all of the girls stay in SS2, and I was the odd one out! *sobsob* =(

Mel hasn’t unpacked her stuff. Her boxes of books and trinkets sat rather neatly against the pale blue wall of her room. A huge red luggage bag stood right beside the pile on the parquet floor. On the opposite corner, there was her bed, without the mattress.

Jeannie: Yerr.. why you sleep facing window wern??
    Waiyee: Scary weh..

After taking pictures, we went downstairs to join the prayer.

Aunt Alice (Mel’s mum): We finished praying ady luu.

Uncle Raymond suggested that the youths pray altogether. After meticulous discussion of how to pray, we held hands in a circle and each person said a simple prayer one after another. Tee Ming ended the prayer circle.

Melissa: Tee Ming, don’t pray so long ya.. *sheepish grin*

    Notty Muh.

  • Cauldron of the Past Week

The upturned strawberry-shaped tree at the back entrance of my college. When the new leaves grow, the tree looked more like a strawberry, cuz the new leaves were pink. Some claimed that it’s an upturned heart-shaped tree.

It feels as though I’m on holiday. Heheh. I never thought of my upcoming exams until I realized that it’s in two weeks’ time. I guess it’s because I’m so used to the normal long semester that usually takes up 12 weeks, but this current semester is a short one – half of the normal long one. Somewhat felt like a short course.. two months of crash course and KABOOM! the finals.

I’m happy I survived thus far in my diploma. I’m starting to feel that journalism is not exactly my cup of tea. But nonetheless, I’ll just go on with it till I finish the whole course.. instead of quitting halfway. All this while, I am very afraid of giving up the whole course. The reason I didn’t take Pre-U which would enable me to do a degree in journalism at UTAR was because I was very much afraid I would give up if it’s too difficult and flunk the whole thing. Pretty much like what I did in Form 6. All the more, since Pre-U is just like resitting Form 6.

I’m a person who runs away from challenges which I think I won’t be able to accomplish. In a way, I’m kiasu. I’m scared of losing, that’s why I don’t participate in them. Unless it’s something I think and I know I can do.

I’m finding it extremely hard to blog, as though I’ve ran out of ideas of what to write.

On a brighter note, Easter Sunday at King’s Kids was a memorable one.. well, sorta. I felt ashamed to God to rush the practice last minute.. I know I didn’t give my best to Him. I’m sorry for rushing my musicians too, who sometimes struggled to pick the right keys in such a short time. Up on stage there was a mixture of feelings, I was excited and had no stagefright at all, but on the other hand, I was afraid to do it. I pretty much hitch-hiked the actions. =s There were a few rebellious kids too, who just didn’t want to obey me. Aunt Elaine reassured me that it’s their nature.. “Don’t worry, they memang lidat wan.”

Oh great, I have a fishbone stuck in my throat. I never liked kampung fish.. ><

Today I took the opportunity to practise my vocals. Perfect timing, when no one was at home (except for my canine, Chelsea) and I had no classes at all. I mean, I should be practising every day, but I’m just uncomfortable yodelling away at home. I know for a fact my sister will holler at me to shut up. When I started singing, Chelsea galloped rather quickly to me with a somewhat concerned look. I guess she must’ve thought I was howling in pain. =.=

Phew. Haven’t been writing long posts for ages. Have a good read. =)

  • My Girls

I’ve got a new camera, thanks to mum! She bought a Canon Powershot A430. Of course I still long for Jeff’s Powershot S1 IS, but mum was skeptical about buying second hand cameras, although I did tell her that I’m very familiar with Jeff’s camera already.

Almost similar to my cousin’s Powershot A400. A 16MB card is obviously insufficient.. capable of storing about 16 pictures only!

These are my girls of the preschoolers in King’s Kids (Sunday School). Only managed to take a picture of one table while they were doing art & crafts. Xie Lin, Esther, Andrea and Rachelle. =) Teaching kids about the Bible enables you as the teacher to understand and remember Bible passages and stories well. Since it was Palm Sunday, we taught them about Jesus’ triumphal entry, acted out the whole scene from untying the plastic blue donkey that Aunty Eve brought to cheering “Hosanna! Hosanna!” with the palm leaves.

Eric chaired the praise session so well! He is truly gifted. I’ve never heard the children get this excited until today. He was really spontaneous; even the youths enjoyed it. We laughed like mad at the part where he introduced the pianist, drummer, guitarist and bassist respectively: “There’s Anna who will be playing the tambourine, Nigel, the violin, Peter, playing the clarinet and Timothy, the kayu tiktok.” I kinda got worried for the younger kids who might think that it’s true. =p Anyways, well done, Eric! =) Now I feel very pressured cuz I’m chairing the praise session next week, which is Easter.. and there’s no way I can be as bold and lively as him.

Little did I know that I have a gift of communicating with children. After a year of teaching in a kindergarten, I know how to talk and deal with them. Just by observing Sze Wei, a teacher in the kindy I worked in, I learnt a lot. I’ve become so close to them that they were constantly in my thoughts when I was not at work. I still do think of them, and I miss them so so much. Their smiles are a sight to behold and their laughter a sweet sound.

    My earliest memory
was accidentally spilling Milo on the floor cushion. My sis saw and ran straight away to my mum to report it. Got caned after that. No, of course not her, but Me.

    At school
I was struggling to communicate in English in Standard One. Not anymore now! =D

    My first relationship
was sweet. =) How we both liked yellow and rainy days, and exchanged mechanical pencils in Form 6, causing suspicious glances from our fellow classmates. Hehe..

I wish I never had worn
mismatched shoes to Ivy’s party when I was.. eight? It was an accident. =p

    I wish I had
more than 24 hours in a day, piano and ballet lessons and a camera. *edit* a day later mum came home with one!! =D

    I wish I hadn’t
wasted time after STPM. I could’ve finished my degree by now and started working.

    At home I cook
when I’m in the mood to. The last time I cooked patatas brava (roasted potato with spicy tomato sauce) was at 12am.

When I was a child, I wanted to
    become an air-stewardess.

The book that changed my life is
the Bible. I have to agree with Jo for that.

    If only I would
    grow taller?

    Friends say that I am
    Crazy.

What I don’t find amusing is
my soil-lover dog digging up MY flowerbeds.

  • Shift?

I’m thinking of shifting to Blogspot. But I want it almost exactly like my Xanga. One famous downside of xanga is that the features are too limited, and very unflexible. You can’t edit the HTML, unless you’re a premium user. I mean, the only thing on Xanga you can edit is the header part.

However, now’s definitely not the right time to shift.. too many more important things to do. There’s an assignment due this Wednesday, and TCS practices on Thursday and Sunday evenings. Thanks to Benyap who told me about it.. I went for an audition and passed as a soprano. =) Am enjoying every bit of the practices; even as I type this, I can’t wait for the next practice!

As we are required to practise at home and familiarize ourselves with the songs, I whipped out my dusty ol’ Casio keyboard my dad bought when I was five. Yep, it’s still working though it’s kinda ancient. I regretted not paying attention during music lessons in my primary school. Music is so fun! I wondered if my dad knew how to play the piano.. I know he knows how to play the guitar, cuz he left us one (but it broke). Oh man, if only he were still around he could’ve taught me how to play it. If only..

But I’m glad I did pay attention a little bit, like reading music notes, and I got a bit help from Teeyee and Teeming, who taught me about time signatures when I was wondering how come the songs sounded weird. And Anna too, for playing the piano for me two Sundays ago. =)

When I was in primary school, we had to state our ambitions – what we want to be when we grow up. Remember that card? It’s called the 001 card. Believe it or not, when I was in Standard Five (I think), I wanted to become a singer. =p

Life’s been good. Thank God for that.. He’s been so nice to me. During this Lent period, I’ve been thinking a lot about Him. And then again, I’m surrounded in His presence, His love and His comfort. No better feeling than that. =)

I had supper with the boys after jamming today, I missed that so much. I realized, these people, and also people in church, are very precious to me, and I love them so much. Aside from God, I won’t be able to live without them. Sayang y’all to bits!

Heheh, getting a li’l ‘emo’ here.. but that’s the truth!

  • Oooh.. I just discovered that I could borrow CDs from the PJ Community Library! I was quite amazed that they have Alanis Morissette, Evanescence, Joss Stone, Maroon 5, Bryan Adams and Jamie Cullum. But sadly, those were the only English albums around. They have VCDs too. I’m eyeing on Catch Me If You Can and Collateral, the next time I visit.

I borrowed a craft book about tassels, which teaches you how to make elegant tassels. Yeah, very boring right.. and I also took back the Maroon 5 CD. =D

Dang.. my Streamyx connection is horrendous.

  • AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

I have no patience whatsoever when I started to pick up the guitar again. I started to self-learn, starting my lessons by myself all over again. The last two semesters I took guitar lessons in college. The first level I was doing pretty well, but when I moved on, I was practically the worst student there. With very little time to practise, I gave up continuing the lessons, cuz I thought, what’s the point if I can’t catch up and I don’t have the time to practise?

I’m impatient with myself. I can’t seem to get things right. I hate the F key. It’s so difficult. When I kept practising and I couldn’t get it right, I threw a tiny tantrum, muttering verbal insults to myself. Many times I wanted to smash the guitar. hehe. But it wouldn’t be very nice, won’t do me any good. So I resolved to physically abusing myself, hitting my own head and giving my legs a long scratch. I dunno why. I tend to do that even when I was very young, when I can’t accomplish something. There was a time when I was frustrated with myself that I brought my fingernails to my temples and scratched my cheeks all the way to my chin. My mum was horrified even though there wasn’t any blood. Just red lines.

Err.. yep. Baby’s still on me bed. I shall go back to it. I shall devote myself an hour a day to perfect my ‘skills’. And hope that someday, I will be good enough to play for worship. Heh.. someday.
